Quake - Artists
The Often Herd - Paradise Cement Works
The Often Herd transcend the traditional boundaries of bluegrass music. Although they might resemble an American string band, complete with driving energy, tight vocal harmonies and dazzling instrumental interplay, their vibrant, transatlantic sound is deeply coloured by their surroundings; the striking natural and industrial landscapes of Northern England.
Lily Bentley - Brookmill Park
Based in South London, Lily Bentley mixes British and Irish traditional songs with her own supernatural and historical storytelling. 'Brookmill Park' is taken from her debut album, 'Norwood Gothic' and marks her as being one to watch.
Tamsin Elliott - Light As Bone
Tamsin is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and film-maker based in Bristol, UK. With roots in the folk music of the British Isles, her interests and playing styles extend to the musics of Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East as well as experimental and classical.
George Brandon - King Of The Buffalo
Lying strongly between the genres of folk punk and indie, George Brandon has written a set of self reflective original material with the emphasis on storytelling and melody, whose songs have a wit and emotional intelligence to them, taking inspiration from the likes of Conor Oberst, Phoebe Bridgers and Frank Turner.
Masa - Underside
Sister duo Masa channel the essence of folk narrative into contemporary songwriting. m?sa means 'sister' in Latvian, a tribute both to the duo's bond as sisters, and to the inspiration they draw from their great-grandmother, who hailed from Latvia.
Janice Burns & Jon Doran - Song Of The Fishgutters
Janice Burns & Jon Doran are an Anglo-Scottish duo who came together after discovering a shared love of traditional music. They find their songs in archives that span the depths of our history - songs that tell vivid stories about the nature of life and our place in the world.
Chloe Levaillant - Let In The Light
Chloe Levaillant is a French-British singer-songwriter, vocalist, improviser and composer. Born in London, she spent the early part of her childhood in England before moving to France with her family. Chloe developed a passion for singing very early o, in the small village of Garsington, England
Greenman Rising - Bedlam Boys
What you will get is the hardcore tradition for modern audiences. Driving dance tunes, songs about love, war, murder and betrayal. The soldier who rebels against an invasion and the sailor cheated when he comes on shore. Beautiful ballads and full-on musical madness that’ll get you dancing the night away.
The Greeners - Happiness Is Letting Go
The Greeners are a London based trio (and sometimes more), who use multiple acoustic instruments and intricate vocal harmonies to create their innovative sound. Their roots are in folk/pop/bluegrass, featuring evocative lyrics, ear-worm riffs, lush strings and soaring melodies.
Frankie Archer - Over The Border
I found this Northumbrian pipe tune in a manuscript. It's called 'Over the Border' and I think was about Hadrian's Wall. I got a slight obsession with the sound of this tune, and the idea of borders. How humans perceive and create borders which do not exist in nature, and what this means for the world.
Ampersand - Call Me
Ampersand are a five piece group based in North London, currently preparing for the release of two debut EPs which were recorded remotely over lockdown. Fusing elements of folk, rock, jazz and classical music, the ensemble pay their dues to the music of the past while forging a sound distinctly their own.
Chloe Matharu - Frozen World
Chloe Matharu is a singer songwriter and harpist on the West Coast of Scotland. Many of her songs draw on her time as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy, inspired by the natural world experienced at sea. Her thoughtful and sensitive songwriting offers an insight into the modern seafarer's life. Chloe's voice, coupled with her harp playing, form a haunting combination.
Fritillaries - Nights Are Drawing In
Fritillaries are a Bristol-based folk and Americana duo, playing original songs on guitar, mandolin and banjo. Their recent songs have their hands in the soil, and take a compassionate look at the shadowy parts of ourselves. Fritillaries have been supported by Help Musicians.
Clara Tracey - Baby Witch
Clara fell in love with the piano at a young age, however her music career took a detour when she chose to study Law and French in Belfast. It was only after moving to France and experiencing life in a Parisian law firm that she discovered a more artistic lifestyle and started performing in jazz cafes around Paris.
Gabi Garbutt - Subterranean Stars
We have seen Gabi Garbutt charming pixie-punk form flitting before us like the secret love sprite of William Blake and Patti Smith, with songs sung in her own unique London accent with a West Country twist. To many of us, this just what music needed.
Eliza Delf - Heaviness In The Head
Eliza Delf’s remarkable debut album “Into The Wilderness showcases her hauntingly powerful voice, wrapped in beguiling harmonies, singing darkly poetic and vividly imagined songs written in blood and shadows. Folk Noir with a gothic heartbeat and lush orchestration.
